Novel by noted 19th-century Norwegian woman author, her first that combined historical & religious themes. Text completely in Norwegian. No statement of edition,& research indicates it is most likely a true First Edition from 1897. Olive green cloth over boards has brilliantly colored front illustration & gilt lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG-: very clean & bright, text block secure, but binding is cracked at title page & between pgs 16-18. Ffep & one internal illustration have come completely detached, with the latter showing edgewear along the bottom where it was sticking out of book. Gold & white decorated endpapers, with 2 initials in gold inside front cover. Interior is very clean & completely unmarked. was sticking out of book. External page edges (which have a red decorative design) show light soiling, as do both covers. Interior is very white, with decorative designs around text. No DJ, as issued.
