One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day, this one by Mead Schaeffer (1898-1980), who here contributed the full-color frontispiece & 3 internal plates--all flawless! The story is a romantic adventure involving the perennial theme of a shipwreck & survival on a deserted island. Orig. published in 1903, this is the First Edition with the illustrations added from 1924. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally bright & clean, binding straight & strong, pages creamy white with moderate tanning around edges. Old gift inscription dated 1943 to recto of frontispiece, along with address label of former owner, else unmarked. Slight rubbing to extremities & to the second "The" in title on front cover. No DJ.
