Following a Foreword which proclaims that, "next to the Bible [this book] has probably been more widely read than any other in the English language,'' Bunyan's celebrated 1678 Christian allegory is brought to new life for 20th-century readers with the illustrations of British artist Frederick Barnard (1846-1896), who, along with other unnamed artists, contributed more than 50 full-color plates & pen-and-ink sketches throughout the 238 pages of text, + frontispiece & endpapers. From 1933, this Winston edition is an octavo with light blue cloth-covered boards, somewhat faded gilt lettering to spine, colorful front paper pastedown. Condition is VG: quite clean, with mild-moderate rubbing to extremities & bumped corners. Frontispiece has a small dampstain to top edge. Interior pages are creamy white modest tanning, but unmarked save for former owner's name & address in neat pen to ffep. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. No DJ. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! All orders processed before 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time) ship same day; later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
