Lovely 19th-century collection of stories for & about children, illustrated throughout the 301 pages with delicate pen-and-ink drawings. Orig. published in 1873, this is the 15th edition, which maintains the exact contents & appearance of the original! Deep navy blue cloth-covered boards are lavishly decorated in black with an embossed design, with bright gilt lettering to front & spine & gilt to outside page edges. Condition is solidly Good: overall very clean, binding strong & straight, pages mildly tanned, commensurate with age, but still completely supple. Former owner's name inside front cover, bleed onto ffep; NO other writing, underlining, or highlighting; NOT ex-lib. Flaws: 1) title page coming loose at top, 2) heavy discolored line parallel to spine where frontispiece meets title page, 3) bumped heavily at corners & both ends of spine. A lovely little bit of nineteenth-century nostalgia. Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping if ordered by 2 pm weekdays (PST); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next day.
