A decent hardcover FIRST EDITION, Second Printing, with orig. DJ of this fifth novel in the writer's acclaimed Lanny Budd series, which began in "World's End" (1940), often deemed "the greatest historical novel of the 20th century." Red cloth-covered boards with silver lettering to spine, embossed lettering to front board, in 655 pages. The book is downgraded to only Good condition due to some spotting to front & dampstain that wraps around lower spine onto both front & rear boards; does not impact inside pages. Otherwise, very clean, binding straight & strong, pages off-white, with mild tanning commensurate with age, but completely unmarked. The price-clipped DJ is also only Good, with heavy rubbing to extremities & chipping to all corners & both ends of spine. Nicely protected in new clear mylar cover.
