Orig. published in 1909, this is a later (post-1935) Reilly & Lee reprint, with the NO color plates, but lavishly illustrated in pen-and-ink by John R. Neill throughout the book's 261 pages, with decorative endpapers by same. This edition has tan cloth over boards with a brilliantly colored paper pastedown to front cover & black lettering & design to spine (fancy publisher script, not plain). Condition is VG: very clean, binding straight & strong, both hinges firm. Pages creamy white with a whisper of tanning to edges; no foxing or stains. Old gift inscription dated Xmas 1943 & child's name in pen in ownership box, else unmarked. Somewhat bumped corners, mild rubbing to extremities, stain to upper outer page edges (photo 5). Front pastedown is brilliant & bright, NO fading or edgewear, but marred by some small circular stains along lower edge. Alas, the original DJ is long gone, but this remains a handsome copy!
