Lovely collection of 6 fairy tales by Joseph Jacobs, part of a series of "Marvelous Tales" issued by Macmillan in the early 1960s, each with Commentary by a famous author (here, W. H. Auden), & beautifully illustrated throughout in soft watercolor designs by different artists--here, James Hill. A FIRST EDITION, first printing from 1963, this oversized hardcover book is in VG condition: generally quite clean, with the occasional spot or smudge. Binding secure, but paper covering spine is worn at both ends of spine & all corners, completely split away for the top 1/2". Laminated acetate covering is intact with some rubbing at lower extremities. Glossy decorative boards are clean & colorful, pages creamy white, colors bright. One instance of crayon writing on ffep.
