Very First Book by the author/illustrator who would become much better known for his popular "Madeline" series about the "12 little girls in 2 straight lines" living with the nuns in Paris. Hansi features a schoolboy in Tyrol, Austria-Hungary, where the author himself was born, with illustrations in both pencil/pen and ink & full color by the author throughout the unpaginated text. Orig. published in 1934, this is the Third Printing from Aug. 1942. Oversized hardcover is in only Good condition: with pictorial boards & a 1/16th blue cloth-wrapped spine, there is heavy rubbing to all extremities & fraying at both ends of spine. Light soil & scuffing. Former child owner had written his name on back cover & inside front & back cover, no other writing, but there is crayon coloring on 1 page.
