Whitman's most famous work, brilliantly illustrated with pen-and-ink & watercolor sketches by Lewis C. Daniel. In 316 pages + 9 prefatory pages by editor Christopher Morley, "An Introduction to the Leaves;" Morley also made the selections for inclusion here from Whitman's larger work & describes "art as a love letter.'' First publication in this format (First, thus), the First Printing from 1940. Oversized hardcover has green nubby-textured cloth-covered boards & is in Good+ condition, downgraded due to 1) heavy fading (to a tan color) around all edges & spine, 2) cloth is starting to split at head of spine-front cover interface, 3) paper pastedown title box to spine is heavily tanned & lightly chipped. Interior is nice & clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Old gift inscription dated 1941 on ffep; NO other writing or underlining or highlighting; not ex-lib. This edition originally came in a slipcase, which is NOT present; no DJ, as issued. Our photos show the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends, & holidays ship very next business day. SORRY: book is too large for expedited domestic or any international shipping without preapproval of extra (at least double) postage due to USPS rates.
