Collection of beloved fairy tales, retold & newly illustrated with the lovely art of Katharine Pyle (1896-1971) displayed in full-color plates & pen-and-ink drawings throughout the 376 pages of text. A vintage First Edition from 1918, not a later reprint, this hardcover book is in Good condition: purple cloth-covered boards show heavy fading to spine & top edges. Lettering in gilt to front & spine is bright. Some small white stains to both boards, moderate rubbing to extremities & bumped corners. Inside, both hinges are cracked, but the text block is strong & secure. Pages creamy white with moderate tanning. Someone drew elaborate pencil sketches of a woman smoking a pipe on both front & rear endpapers, else unmarked save for very light, scattering foxing throughout. The plate depicting the Water Sprite is completely loose, but present & undamaged--lovely images! No DJ; likely as issued.
