Beautiful First Edition from 1927 of this classic volume that chronicles the history of prints created by engravers across the centuries, roughly 1486-1895, of every kind of sailing ship: galleys, carracks, merchantmen & men-of-war, clippers, fore-and-afters, yachts, & more! In 182 pages, roughly cut along fore edge, with 15 full-color & 95 black-and-white illustrations throughout the text from the MacPherson collection. Quarto has rich green silk cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering & insignia to front cover & spine. There are a few small scrapes/faint white spots to both front & rear boards. Condition is VG+: exquisitely clean & bright, vellum pages creamy white, with moderate, even tanning & some scattered foxing; outer top page edges heavily foxed but unmarked, binding strong & straight, hinges intact. Very slight rubbing to extremities & mild bumping/pushing at corners & both ends of spine. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
