Lovely copy, with its original DJ, of this beloved novel about the Baxter family in the Big Scrub of inland Florida, centering on the boy, Jody, & his relationship with the little fawn. Winner of the 1939 Pulitzer Prize & basis for the 1946 film starring Gregory Peck & Jane Wyman. In 428 pages, with pen-and-ink illustrations throughout the text by Edward Shenton. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing from1938 (with the requisite Scribner's "A" & correct dates), this hardcover book has beige cloth-covered boards & green lettering/design to front cover & spine. Condition is VG, marred by staining/heavy tanning to indentations where spine meets front & rear boards; endpapers heavily tanned, pages only moderately so, especially around edges. Else, extremely clean, binding is straight & strong. The unclipped, First State, DJ (with orig. $2.50 price intact on front flap, no mention of Pulitzer) is barely Good, with many chips to all extremities, soiling to spine, but colors on front are bright & crisp. Beautifully protected in new mylar cover Free!
