In 151 pages, with pen-and-ink illustrations by Garth Williams throughout, this is a FIRST EDITION of this 1960 classic (though an 8th printing from 1965, identical in all aspects. The hardcover book has light lilac cloth-covered boards with black lettering to spine.Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean, binding tight & square, pages creamy white, with mild tanning to edges, heavier tanning to all endpapers. Former owner's bookplate & old gift inscription on ffep.The unclipped DJ (with orig. $3.50 price intact on front flap) is downgraded to only Good due to heavy rubbing to extremities, many small chips, short creases, particularly at both ends of spine & all corners.
