The venerable rare book expert & Alcott scholar Madeleine Stern has edited, & written an Introduction to, this collection of previously unknown "blood-and-thunder" tales written by Louisa May Alcott under the pseudonym "A. M. Barnard." All were orig. published in various weeklies in the late 1860s before she finally dared to published "Little Women" under her own name. A FIRST EDITION, fourth printing from 1975 (not the new reprint!), this hardcover book has bright red paper-covered boards with black lettering to spine. Condition is Fine: completely clean & bright, binding straight & strong, pages slightly off-white with mild tanning to endpapers only; no foxing. NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Only flaw is slight pushing to heel of spine. The unclipped DJ is downgraded to Near fine due to very slight edgewear, including a few teeny tears & mild creases; NO fading, nicely protected in new mylar cover Free!
