Another in the series of charming stories about the wondrous Doctor Dolittle in Victorian England, providing the back story on his wondrous friend & confidante, the green canary Pippinella. Only published in syndicated newspaper format at the time of his death, the author's wife, Josephine, & her sister, Olga Michael, finished the stories; they appeared here in book form for the first time in 1950; this is a Seventh printing of that First Edition, in 276 pages, with 51 of the author's original black-and-white illustrations throughout the text. Hardcover book is an Ex-Lib copy with the usual markings & card pocket in front matter & stamps to outside page edges. Library binding consisting of sturdy teal cloth over boards with colorful decoration & lettering to front & spine. Small area on lower spine shows fading where old call number was, which has been carefully removed. Condition is VG: generally quite clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white. Aside from the library marks, NO writing/underlining/highlighting. No DJ, as issued (library binding versions did not come with them). Please see our photos--they show the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have on hand! Photos & description property of Gargoyle Books.
