A handsome First Hardcover slipcased edition of this book of poems from the owner of City Lights Bookshop in San Francisco & longtime publisher/friend of the Beat poets. In 116 pages with Index to Titles & First Lines in rear. Orig. published in various magazines & in a softcover edition from this same publisher in 1958, this is the first hardcover edition from 1969 from that same publisher, bound in yellow cloth with black lettering to spine, decorative paper-covered slipcase with photo of the author by Ernest Lowe to front, description of book on back. Condition is Near Fine: light soiling to spine/hinges are only flaws. Else, interior is bright & completely clean with tanned outlines of a newspaper clipping insert (San Francisco Chronicle article about Ferlinghetti signed by "F" tucked in) to half-title page; other pages completely creamy white. Binding strong & straight. Former owner's bookplate to ffep. Slipcase is sturdy, no rips or tears or splits, rubbing to opening edges & light soil to rear.
