Focus here is on the relatively unknown role of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo who served under 3 separate nations in CA. Orig. published in a blue buckram in a limited edition in 1941, this is apparently the First Trade Edition, SIGNED by the AUTHOR (with 1947 date) to ffep. It is also an association copy, with a gift inscription & signature inside front cover by "Josephine.your State Treasurer & Friend,'' in memory of the recipient's "official visit to Court Valley's #818. October 1947." In 374 pages, with duotone photos throughout, this hardcover book has rich burgundy cloth over boards with bright gilt crest & lettering to front & spine. Condition is Near Fine, marred only by mild corner bumping. Else, very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages off-white with a hint of tanning around outer edges. The unclipped DJ (orig. $2.50 price intact to front flap) is VG+: bright with negligible edgewear & slight darkening; nicely protected in new mylar cover free!
