Lovely edition of Steinbeck's classic novel with full-color endpapers & internal illustrations by Wesley Dennis, best known for his work on the "Misty of Chincoteague" & other horse books. Orig. published in 1937, this is the FIRST EDITION, first printing of this special edition from 1945 from Viking (First, Thus) that originally came in a slipcase, which is NOT INCLUDED HERE (please see our other listing #016594 for a copy WITH the original slipcase). With gray cloth-covered boards & a front paper pastedown of the pony, this hardcover book is in VG+ condition: exceptionally clean inside with a few spots/light soil to exterior. Front pastedown is flawless. Binding is straight & strong, pages moderately tanned, commensurate with age. The soft watercolor illustrations are flawless. Only flaw is 2 dings toward top outer-upper corner of fore edge side of front board, with a tad of fraying. s are slightly bumped corners & a few very faint, small spots to both boards. NO slipcase.
