Autobiographical account by a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps who served as a surgeon in the US Army Forces in China, Burma, & India during WWII. In 295 pages preceded by a 15-page section of black-and-white photos. Orig. published by Norton in 1943, this is a special edition for the People's Book Club in Chicago from 1944. Hardcover with publisher's green cloth over boards blind stamped with author's name to front & lettered in gilt in a lighter green title box to spine. Condition is Near Fine: extremely clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages tanned commensurate with wartime paper quality, heavier around edges & to endpapers.
