Autobiographical account by at least one (Whiting) direct descendant of Alpheus Cutler (1784-1864), an early follower of Joseph Smith who founded the Church of Jesus Christ in 1853--the Cutlerites--& served as its president. The book details how he instructed them to seek "the land between two lakes" & establish the township of Clitherall, MN, where they were to await the coming of the "Moses Man" who would lead them back to Zion. Whiting would go on to write other books about the Cutlerites & the region, & was active in the St. Paul community until she died in 2020 at the age of 93. Also chronicled is the story of the Whitlow family & their involvement with the Cutlerites. A FIRST EDITION, first printing from July 1948, SIGNED by BOTH AUTHORS with an inscription: "To B.J. and John, With all best wishes for a wonderful life, Jo, Billie" to ffep. Small octavo (5.5" x 8") has blue cloth over boards with small gilt stars stamped on front/lettering to spine. Condition downgraded to Fair due to dampstaining to exterior boards & both front & rear endpapers; rest of text is unaffected: clean, binding strong & straight, pages modestly tanned. The unclipped DJ is also only Fair, missing a large chunk from fore edge side of front cover, minor rubbing to extremities elsewhere; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover. SCARCE: WorldCat shows 1 copy at Brigham Young University, but priced low due to condition.
