Contains 15 stories originally included in the author's first book, "Dark Carnival,'' + 4 published in different magazines, with a new Introduction by the author for this edition. Orig. published by Ballantine in 1955, this is the First Edition, First Printing, of the Avon Books Edition from 1999 (First, thus). Octavo has a creamy white paper over quarter pumpkin-colored cloth-covered boards, with the author's name blindstamped to front cover, letters in bright bronze gilt to spine. Condition is VG: despite being an EX-LIB copy, there are only a few school stamps to front & rear endpapers. Else, completely clean, pages creamy white & unmarked, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Slight rubbing to extremities, heaviest along bottom edges from shelf. The unclipped DJ is Near Fine, having been protected under old library mylar, which has been removed, the cover cleaned, & a new clear mylar cover added. Slight spine fading is only flaw.
