Early 20th-century YA series featuring the adventuresome Campfire Girls, modeled after the real organization of the same name, which had started in 1910 as the first nonsectarian, multicultural organization for girls in America. The series was written by various women authors through the 1930s. This book is #8 of 14 penned by one by one of the most prolific writers, Margaret Vandercook. Orig. published in 1917, this is a FIRST EDITION, First printing, listing to self at 2 places in front matter & on back DJ flap. Thinner book, with decorative endpapers + 3 internal illustrations by an uncredited artist. 240 pages. Hardcover 8vo has cream-light brown cloth-covered boards with a red & black stamped image of girls rowing a canoe to front, black lettering to front & spine. Condition is Fair, downgraded due to insect damage to both joints, with paper loss. Else, generally clean, binding secure but a tad shaky, hinges secure. Minor rubbing to extremities. Pages moderately tanned (heavier to edges) but unmarked save for former owner's name & Xmas 1920 to ffep. The unclipped DJ (replicating the same image as the front book cover, with a tan-cream background) is Good: largely intact, but with chipping, creasing, light soil, paper loss at all corners & both ends of spine. Protected by former owner in clear mylar cover. Our photos depict the EXACT book you will receive from us--never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
