Both heartbreaking & heartwarming, this is a fictionalized account of the true story of Dita Kraus, a 14-year-old Czech girl imprisoned at Auschwitz until rescued by the Allies at the end of WWII, who not only survived, but maintained a secret library of 8 books that she distributed to her fellow prisoners & kept their spirits alive. In 423 pages, with profiles of some of the reali-life characters & what happened to them, along with bibliographic sources, in rear. Orig. published in Spanish in 2012, & translated into English in 2017, this is the FIRST AMERICAN EDITION from that same year, but a later (11th) printing. Hardcover 8vo has blue matte paper over boards lettered in white with a Jewish star to spine. Condition is Near Fine: just slightly less crisp than Brand New! Completely clean save for a very faint discolored area to bottom outside page edges near spine; same stain shows up inside the DJ, not visible outside. Pages creamy white & unmarked, binding strong & straight, DJ colorful with no wear; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free. Our photos show the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
