Elvis Stamp Jigsaw Puzzle

Issued by the United State Post Office as part of a pre-release promotion for its new Elvis stamp, a commemorative 29-cent issue in honor of singer/actor Elvis Presley (1935-1977). Out of many designs originally submitted, two made it into the final running--"young" & "old" Elvis, known colloquially as "skinny Elvis" & "fat Elvis," featuring artwork by (respectively) Mark Stutzman (airbrush & acrylic on board) & John Berkey (oil on board). Reaching out to the US public for the final decision on which design would become a stamp, the USPS placed preaddressed ballots in post offices across the country & in the 13 Apr 1992 issue of People magazine. Responses (over 1.2 million ballots were received) overwhelming favored "young Elvis. The stamp was officially dedicated at the singer's Memphis home, Graceland, on what would have been his 58th birthday, 8 Jan 1993. The Smithsonian's National Postal Museum reports that it remains the most popular commemorative stamp ever issued. This 10" x 7.75" puzzle is a scarce piece in that it was a special promotion distributed only to postal employees at the time (a larger, boxed 500-piece puzzle was released to the public later in 1992 & is relatively common). It is encased in a stiff, laminated cardboard frame from which the 28 puzzle pieces can be punched out. These pieces have never been removed (it has been on our possession since date of issue). A tad of light soil to back & top pieces of the puzzle are pulling away slightly from the top edge of the frame. Else, just about as clean & bright & flawless as when issued!
