Jane Eyre/Wuthering Heights Set

Lovely two-volume hardcover set, with unforgettable, striking woodcut illustrations by Fritz Eichenberg: "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte, & "Wuthering Heights" by her sister, Emily. These special editions were produced by Richard Ellis for the Book of the Month Club, with the printing & binding by Kingsport Press of Tennessee. Illustrations were printed letter press from electrotypes of the original wood engravings. Each book is bound in decorative deep green & cream paper with woodcut illustration on both front & rear, with the spines wrapped in dark green cloth lettered in gilt. "Wuthering" is in better condition-VG-while "Jane" is just Good. However, "Wuthering" has a dampstain that is evident on the upper spine & affects the top of many pages in a semicircular stain pattern coming out from center. "Jane" has a cracked rear hinge & former owner's name in pen to ffep. Otherwise, both are clean & unmarked, bindings secure & straight, pages off-white with age-appropriate tanning.
