Orig. published in Danish in 1843 under a pseudonym as "Frygt og Bven." In xvi + 146 pages, brilliantly illustrated by Swiss artist Paul Scheruebel with full-color plates that invoke "mythology, the Lowbrow Movement, & abstract expressionism" throughout the text. Text follows that of the 1985 Penguin edition, with minor emendations. Hardcover 8vo has red cloth-covered boards with a stunning image stamped in frown & silver to front, brown lettering to spine. Condition of both book & accompanying slipcase is As New: virtually flawless & completely unmarked. Just removed from the shelves of a private collector's library.
