Collection of 35 poems designed to provide a shared reading experience between parents & children. Ciardi once again teamed up with longtime collaborator Edward Gorey, who did all internal illustrations in his inimitable style. In 64 pages, this is a nice secondary piece for the Gorey collector. A hardcover FIRST EDITION from 1962, 12th impression (printing), this small quarto (6.75" x 9.75") with deep green-blue cloth-covered boards decorated with a Gorey drawing stamped in black to front cover, lettering in his black script to spine. It is an Ex-Lib copy, but marred by only 4 "discard" stamps to endpapers & ffep has been sliced out (presumably where old card pocket was affixed). Condition is nonetheless VG: exceptionally clean & bright, pages white & unmarked, binding strong & straight. The price-clipped DJ is Near Fine: protected under clear library mylar, it shows no fading or wear, just old paper call number affixed to lower spine.
