Founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1878, the Order of Scottish Clans was a fraternal and benevolent society created to 1) preserve the culture and traditions of Scotland among Americans of Scotch ancestry, & 2) provide life and disability insurance to Scottish immigrants and their descendants. In the 1970s, the group would become subsumed into the Independent Order of Foresters. Closely aligned with the Masons (with many men sharing dual memberships), The result of a unanimous vote of the Royal Clan Convention held in Detroit, Michigan, in 1953, this booklet outlines the official procedures for conducting a "clan moot,'' (meeting), initiating & orienting new members, installing new leaders, determining the suitability of visitors, conducting funeral services, & more.
