Long before national attention became focused on segregation & civil rights came this "explosive" expos of a book by a lifetime Southerner in the 1940s, who had gone underground & inside to "tell the truth about the best-lied-about region in America,'' the South. From inside the Ku Klux Klan, Sons of Dixie, & the Commoner Party, he explored how such organizations perpetuate longstanding evils in the region, & others work to subvert democracy by introducing "fascist elements." "Candid though it is, [his] faith in the South's people & their future is unbounded." He continued working for social justice throughout his life until he dies in 2011. A FIRST EDITION from 1946, but with a slightly different state DJ showing a blurb from Walter Winchell to front cover. This DJ is much more scarce than the First State one which touted "a documented expos." Hardcover small octavo has tan cloth-covered boards lettered & ruled in black to front & spine. Condition is Near Fine: completely clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages creamy white with a modest, even tanning, but completely unmarked. Slight bumping & rubbing to spine tips & some scattered rubbed spots to front cover at both top & bottom edges (showing up as light spots). The unclipped DJ (with orig. $3.00 price intact) is Fair, with heavy creasing & many small-medium chips, rubbing to extremities; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received Weekdays by 2 pm Pacific time; later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
