Very first book by this long British zoologist & adventurer, based on his travels to the remote forests of Mamfe in West Africa, where he encountered many species unknown to most of the planet. In 326 pages, with 32 sepia-toned pencil sketches by the author throughout. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from Sept. 1937, this hardcover is nearly a small quarto (6.25" x 9.50") with tan cloth-covered boards decorated with darker brown illustrations by the author. Condition is VG+: exceptionally clean, pages creamy white & unmarked, with moderate tanning, heaviest around edges & endpapers. There is a faint dampstain to the top outer page edges near spine that barely starts to tinge that top inner edge of some pages. Binding tight & square, hinges secure, with splitting to the gutter at half-title page. Slight darkening around edges & lightly bumped corners. The unclipped DJ is VG- (minus) with chipping at both ends of spine that was repaired on the back with clear tape by a former owner; mild edgewear & slight darkening. We are also offering an unjacketed copy for less (please see our listing #024978). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
