Based on her own life, this book was like her other early ones, about a girl in small-town Ohio around the turn of the 20th century. In 218 pages, with her pen-and-ink illustrations throughout, as well as a full-color frontispiece with tissue overlay intact. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1928, this hardcover octavo (5.5" x 8.25") has soft red cloth over boards stamped with paper pastedowns containing an illustration & title/author name lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG: generally very clean with the occasional spot or smudge, sewn binding strong & straight, though rear hinge is cracked. Pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges, but unmarked save for old gift inscription in "this book belongs to" box on ffep. Heavy spine fading & moderate rubbing to extremities, with a bit of cloth fraying at corners & spine tips, light stain to heel of spine. No DJ.
