SOON 3 was founded in 1972 & directed by Alan Finneran, with his wife Bean serving as co-producer, co-director and performer in this experimental, avant-garde theatre company, which was based on the principles of Bauhaus. Their first performance piece was presented at SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) in 1975, and their company continued to give performances throughout the world until 1999. While in San Francisco, their home was the Magic Theater & the Dreamland Ballroom (2678 California St). Performers worked with large-scale modular "cinemasculpture" in which "structural surfaces of the sculpture are animated by film projects while other kinetic elements.are manipulated by live performers." The goal was to create a "new hybrid art form combining elements of the elements of sculpture, film, actors, and sound." This lot includes 3 one-sheet posters, each 14" x 21", advertising 3 early performances: 1) One by One, created for a special performance at the University of California-Davis, 25-26 Oct 1975. Near Fine, shallow, slightly noticeable, central fold 2) The Desire Circus, a "cinemasculpture machine" created especially for a presentation at the San Francisco Museum of Art, 17-16 Jan 1975. Near Fine, shallow, barely noticeable, central fold 3) The White Woman: a "performance seascape in six acts,'' presented at the Dreamland Ballroom in San Francisco, Feb-Mar 1979. Good: slight rippling to top third of poster, light soil/spotting to left side, mild corner bending, noticeable central fold. Also includes a poster for the Dreamland Ballroom poster, advertising its schedule for Summer 197, with performances created & directed by the cast, crew, & friends of SOON 3.
