Four fairy tales typically attributed to the 17th century writer Charles Perrault are retold here for early-20th-century readers, brought to life with the enchanting illustrations of Edmund Dulac, who has contributed a full-color frontispiece & 7 internal plates, as well as the fancifully decorated endpapers, in pen & ink. Orig. published in London in 1910, this is the First Edition from Garden City Publishing Co. in New York (First, thus); no date, but there is a gift inscription in pen to ffep date 1932. In 196 pages, this hardcover octavo (5.75" x 8.75") has lilac cloth-covered boards, heavily faded gilt lettering to spine, with a beautifully colored pastedown covering nearly the entire front board, which has a couple of very tiny nicks. Condition is VG: very clean & completely unmarked save for that inscription in front. Pages creamy off-white with moderate tanning, heavier to edges, which are deckled at fore edge. Binding strong & straight, hinges intact, but gutter is cracked at pages 142-143. Modest rubbing to extremities, heavier to corners & both ends of spine, with fraying at head of spine. A lovely copy! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends, & holidays ship very next business day.
