A lovely copy, complete with original DJ, of Book #2 of only two in this series designed for girls in the early 20th century, each featuring heroines with different abilities & inclinations, most involved in solving mysteries (like their counterpart who would come around in the 1930s, Nancy Drew). Ms Garis was a writer in the same Stratemeyer Syndicate that produced the Drew books, but she insisted on writing under her own name. Written in the era of the flapper, this story features female friends Ted Layton & Tony Potter, who "wish to bring back into the lives of those they love a romance which makes an interesting story.& like girls of today, believe that life should be filled with happiness." A FIRST EDITION, unidentified printing, from 1929, in 261 pages + a notice from the publisher + 4 pages of ads for other's series books in rear, with glossy frontispiece, 3 glossy internals, & cover art by Thelma Gooch. Hardcover 12mo has gray cloth-covered boards stamped with a black image of Ted to center of front board & green lettering stamped to front & spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, interior pages are creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning, completely unmarked save for former owner's name 7 address in pencil to front free endpaper. Corners crisp, very mild pushing to both ends of spine. The unclipped DJ is Good: colorful & complete on front & back, but missing the upper half of spine; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free!
