Like many of her female counterparts in Ms. Garis' books, she also solves a mystery, like that most famous sleuth in the Stratemeyer syndicate's stable, Nancy Drew. Ms Garis was a writer in the Syndicate, but unique for a woman writer at the time, insisted on writing under her own name. A FIRST EDITION, unknown printing, from 1924, in 246 pages + [4] pages in rear, including a publisher's notice & ads for other titles. Glossy frontispiece + 3 glossy internals by illustrator Thelma Gooch. Hardcover 12mo has light blue cloth-covered boards stamped with a darker blue image of Joan to front cover with lighter blue lettering to front/dark blue to spine. Condition is just Good: very clean, interior pages are creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning. Completely unmarked save or former owner's name, school, & date to ffep. Exterior shows heavy rubbing both to extremities & board surfaces, fading, & bumping to corners & both ends of spine. The unclipped DJ is Good+, with staining to spine & paper loss along front flap fold, minor edgewear at corners & spine; nicely protected in clear mylar cover Free!
