Orig. published in 1936, then reprinted in 1942, this is a 1944 reprint, SIGNED by the AUTHOR on title page & again on the facing page following a lovely long inscription dedicated to a little girl named Lizbeth Ann, dated 1959. Oblong small octavo (7.5" x 8.5") has yellow cloth-covered boards with an elaborate jungle scene decorating the front cover. In 44 pages (unpaginated), each with a rhyme that tells a story about the various animals of the Panamanian jungle, where the author wrote this & many of her other books; this one remains her most popular! Condition is VG: generally very clean, with a few small spots to exterior. Binding secure but a little shaky. Pages moderately tanned, commensurate with age, but unmarked. Mild rubbing to extremities & light corner bumping. A handsome copy with a lovely personalized inscription & signature that will make the author & her "small friends" (as she calls them) come alive!
