Orig. published in 1868, this is a later (1881) printing of that FIRST EDITION, in 392 pages with Preface, 2-page colored engraving of the stomach showing "death by delirrium tremens" & other views. Hardcover 24mo has brown cloth-covered boards ruled & lettered in gilt to spine. Condition is Good+: very clean with mild rubbing & spotting to exterior. Binding strong & square, pages creamy white with modest tanning, completely unmarked save for former owner's name in script & gift inscription beneath on ffep. BUT, there is light dampstaining to all page edges, , largely confined to margins. No DJ, as issued.
