Stunningly lovely two-volume set of the Alice tales in a special edition from 1946 (First, thus), with the original drawings of Sir John Tenniel hand-colored by German illustrator Fritz Kredel for a soft watercolor effect. Orig. housed in a slipcase (which is NOT present), both hardcover octavos have decorative paper-covered boards over quarter cloth, one red, the other blue. Both are Near Fine: extremely clean & bright, bindings secure & straight, pages creamy white with a hint of tanning around edges, but completely unmarked. Extremely mild rubbing to extremities & corner bumping & tearing, some down to underlying boards. No DJs, as issued, & slipcase is missing.
