A scarce title in the tertiary Edward Gorey collectible canon, this is a collection of 33 "tales of imagination that every child should know, because every child will enjoy them," including stories by Shirley Jackson, James Thurber, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, H. G. Wells, Saki, Frank Stockton, & more. From the Looking Glass Library, Gorey did the DJ (missing), cover art, & internal title page illustrations for each story (though he is nowhere attributed [Toledano C1a]). Hardcover 12mo has paper-covered boards decorated & lettered in tones of red, pink, brown, black & white. Condition is Good: internally, completely clean, with pages showing age-appropriate tanning, but unmarked. The binding is strong & straight & hinges intact. However, the paper covering the spine is torn along both joints, has many chips, & is missing a 2" section at head of spine. All corners bumped with paper loss, exposing underlying boards. But you need this if you're a Gorey completist! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
