Classic children's story about the little girl, Fern, who loved Wilbur the pig, who had a dear spider friend called Charlotte, all of whom are charmingly brought to life with the illustrations of Garth Williams throughout the 184 pages + decorative endpapers. Orig. published in Oct. 1952 (see our listing #024372 for a true first edition, without DJ), this is a later printing (A-K, ie, Jan.1960) of that FIRST EDITION. Small octavo has tan-light brown cloth-covered boards stamped with green lettering & black spider to front & spine. Condition is just Fair: noticeable external soiling & heavy rubbing to extremities, with cloth fraying along lower edges. Ffep was torn & messily retaped, causing it to not fit quite right with the rest of the text block. Text block is secure, hinges intact. Pages are off-white with the occasional spot or smudge. Old bookstore stamp to half-title page, else unmarked. The unclipped DJ (with correct first edition $2.95 price intact to front flap) is VG- (minus): colorful & bright, but with 1) a triangular chip to heel of spine, & 2) a .75" unclosed tear ascending from lower edge of front cover through the letter "I"s in "Little" & "Williams." Harper Blue Ribbon stamp to front, wrapping around spine. Very mild edgewear otherwise & light soil; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free. Our photos show the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
