Beautifully illustrated by Maginel Wright Barney (1877-1966), the talented younger sister of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, this is a magical Christmas tale which incorporates the Irish legend of St. Bridget & the Island of Iona. This was Sawyer's very first book, which fell into relative obscurity; she would become better known for her children's books, "Journey Cake-Ho!" & "Roller Skates." Orig. published in 1916, this is a 1944 edition, later printing, in 175 pages. Nearly a small quarto (7" x 9.5"), with green cloth over quarter black cloth-covered boards, lettered in gilt with a gilt design to spine. Condition is VG+: extremely clean, binding strong & straight, pages off-with age-appropriate, modest tanning, heavier around edges; unmarked save for old gift inscription dated 1951 to ffep. Mild rubbing to extremities & bumping to corners & spine tips. The frontispiece & 6 internal plates are flawless, with strong colors & crisp white borders. No DJ.
