In this volume from the "Pleasant Hour Series,'' Dickens' classic Christmas tale is rewritten for young readers by Margaret Waters, with lovely full-color frontispiece + 5 internal plates by Swedish-American artist Hugo von Hofsten (1865-1947). No date, but publisher Barse & Hopkins only existed 1909-1932; WorldCat places this title c. 1909 & shows only 2 holdings in US libraries (11-24). In 48 pages + 9 pages of ads for other books by this publisher in rear, this octavo (6.50" x 8.50") has light green cloth-covered boards ruled & lettered in darker green to front & spine, with a colorful front paper pastedown (which has the slightest wear to bottom edge). Condition is Good: generally clean with the occasional spot or smudge. Pages creamy white & unmarked save for dampstain to lower ffep & former owner's name & address in pen inside front cover. Stitched binding has loosened severely, but is holding, though the frontispiece & 2 of the internal plates have come completely loose; rear hinge cracked & reglued. Exterior shows modest rubbing to extremities, with slight fraying to cloth at both ends of spine & bumped corners. No DJ, as issued.
