Book #5 in this series of mysteries for young adult (YA) girls in the early 20th century & the first one written by Mildred Wirt (who would go on to pen other children's series, most famously, the Nancy Drew books under her pen name "Carolyn Keene."). A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1935, listing only to Self in front matter & to previous title on front DJ flap, this small octavo (5.5" x 8") has medium blue cloth over boards lettered in black to front & spine, with a glossy frontispiece (by Furman, unattributed in text) & decorative endpapers, in 212 pages. Condition is VG: quite clean, binding strong & straight, but a little shaky, hinges secure. Pages significantly tanned, commensurate with age, unmarked save for several former owners' names in pencil to the "This is my book" box on ffep; we never erase these, out of respect for those long-ago readers. Slight fading & light rubbing to extremities, with very mild fraying at corners. The slightly clipped DJ is Good, with fading, rubbing to extremities, & a substantial chip from top edge of front cover where it meets the spine; nicely protected in clear mylar cover by previous owner.
