A Newbery Medal Winner from 1971, this is another YA tale by an author who is so uniquely skilled at portraying "young people at odds with themselves & the world." Here, her heroine is 14-year-old Sara, who has to deal with a pretty older sister & a younger brother with intellectual challenges ("mentally retarded" in the terminology of the times). This is the Third Printing of the 1970 FIRST EDITION, in 142 pages, illustrated throughout with the delicate pen-and-ink drawings of Ted CoConis. Octavo with light purple cloth-covered boards, stamped with black swans across front, black lettering to spine. Condition is Near Fine: just a tad less crisp than Brand New, with a scattering of foxing to top outside edges of text block. Else, completely clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages off-white & unmarked, corners crisp. The DJ, clipped at both ends of front flap (not bce) is VG+, with modest tanning to edges & spine, very mild chipping to head of spine; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day
