A "rare & beautifully executed" edition from the Illustrated Editions Company of Edward Fitzgerald's translation of Omar Khayyam's classic love poem, with all the quatrains in the correct sequence, brilliantly illustrated with tipped-in color plates by artist Hamzeh Abd-ullah Kar, which demonstrate an Eastern tone not found in previous editions by Western artists. Unpaginated. Contains both the First & Last Versions, + a brief bio of the astronomer-poet by Fitzgerald. With pebbled black cloth-covered boards decorated & lettered in red & gilt to front & spine, this small quarto (8.25" x 11") is in Near Fine: exceptionally clean, binding straight & strong, hinges secure, vellum-like pages are creamy vanilla colored & completely unmarked save for gift inscription in a flourish of pen inside front cover. Tiny smudge noted on one page. Front board shows a 1" white streak of unknown origin & gilt has largely faded from front & spine. Corners crisp. No DJ (missing). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have on hand. Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
