The fourth book in the continuing Oz series written by Ruth Plumly Thompson (the 2nd "Royal Historian of Oz") "founded on & continuing" the tradition of the original 14 stories by L. Frank Baum, with the original illustrations of artist John R. Neill throughout the 271 pages of text, along with the front pastedown. Orig. published in 1924, this is a later printing of that First Edition (c. 1935 per Hanff & Greene, p. 90-91), discontinuing the color plates. With dark brick-red cloth-covered boards with a brilliantly colored paper pastedown to front cover & black lettering & design to spine (fancy publisher script), this octavo is in VG condition: generally quite clean & bright, binding strong & straight, both hinges secure, pages modestly tanned around edges, foxing to exterior edges of text block. Unmarked save for a couple of name stamps of former owner to endpapers & gift inscription in pen dated 1943 inside front cover. Front pastedown has light soil, otherwise, bright & colorful with no wear! Alas, the original DJ is long gone, but this remains a handsome copy!
