The 15th book in the original Oz canon & the very first one written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, though she is uncredited: Baum's name would continue to appear as the author until 1985.The endpapers, colorful front pastedown, & internal pen-and-ink illustrations were provided by longtime Oz artist, John R. Neill. Orig. published in 1921, this is a later (post-1935 printing), with the color plates discontinued (Hanff & Greene, p. 88). Octavo (7" x 9.25") has bright yellow-orange cloth over boards, with black lettering & design to spine. Condition is VG+: extremely clean, pages creamy white & unmarked save for old gift inscription in pen dated 1945 to the "This Book Belongs To" box. Binding strong & straight, both hinges sturdy. Exterior shows light random soil, very modest rubbing to extremities & slight corner bumping. No DJ.
