"A pictorial record covering all the counties of Maine, with text between,'' this volume was part of the States Beautiful series by photographer/minister/antiquarian Wallace Nutting (1861-1941) whose pen-and-ink sketches & sepia-toned photographs (304 in all!) brilliantly bring his text to life. In 302 pages, this is a FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1924. Small quarto (7" x 10.25") has olive cloth-covered boards stamped with an inset deeper green title box to front, with gilt lettering here & to spine (completely faded to the latter). Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages modestly but evenly tanned, unmarked save for old gift inscription dated 1927 to ffep in pen script. Both ends of spine show small tears & fraying, corners moderately bumped.
