Before she emerged as the 20th century's etiquette maven, Miss Emily Post. This book recounts her daring journey across the US on the just-constructed Lincoln Highway, traveling with her son, Edwin, & another companion. By her meticulous accounting, the entire trip, including gas, new tires & other car parts, telephone calls, hotels, & meals, cost $1,496.11. First published by P. F. Collier in 1915, this is the 1917 printing of the 1916 copyrighted edition from D. Appleton & Co, in 281 pages + 27 maps on glossy paper in rear. Black-and-white photos by the author throughout text, showing vintage automobiles, clothes, & sights. Map endpapers. Small octavo (5.50" x 8.25") has navy blue cloth-covered boards with a brightly colored front paper pastedown showing her route across the US (an image replicated inside on endpapers), lettered in bright gilt to front & spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, sewn binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with moderate tanning, heaviest around edges, but completely unmarked. A hint of bumping to spine tips & corners. No DJ, as issued. A handsome book that fills in a missing piece of this pioneering American woman's back story.
