This beloved fairy tale from 1863 was first published in London with 32 delicate watercolor illustrations by British artist Warwick Goble (1862-1943) in 1909, then in this edition with 16 full-color illustrations (frontispiece + 15 internals) by the same in 1910 (First, thus). In 274 pages, this octavo (5.50" x 18.50") has gray-green cloth-covered boards stamped with a gilt image of a water baby riding a fish to front board, lettered in gilt to spine. Condition is VG: very clean, bright gilt to top edges of text block, pages creamy white & unmarked, though heavy offsetting to front endpapers. Heavy faded area to rear board. Tissue guard over frontispiece is intact, sewn binding is secure & straight, hinges intact. Externally, there are some small tears in the cloth at spine & corners, slight pushing to both ends of spine, corners lightly bumped.
